The Selkie: Introduction

[Author’s Note: The Selkie is Part 1 of a trilogy I made up during the pandemic. The thoughts of the characters are in no means a reflection of my own nor are their experiences. This is a very triggering tale with very graphic explorations of heavy themes through the lens of a teenager trying to figure out life. They also have magic powers but like that’s just for flavour. I hope you enjoy this little fable I created in the shower one day.]

Before you read any further I would like to warn you that my story is not very filtered. These are raw thoughts of the teenage mind that many are afraid to voice. They may be “cringey” or unsettling, or just plain boring. But this is my story, and I’ll tell it how I want to.
My name is Leila Jones, but my friends call me Dite. It’s short for Aphrodite, though not for reasons you would guess. Many know me by “Selkie”, a horrible nickname pinned to me by the wonderful teenagers of Alberfeine’s Institute for the Unique based on the sirens of legend.
It’s another story of children with superpowers, but the mundane side to being extraordinary. We are the Unique, as Mr Alberfeine likes to call us. Yet the drama of teenhood and prepubescence haunts us all within the confines of the school in our secluded town.
My powers, if you haven’t guessed by now, have a sexual inclination to it. Bluntly said, I seduce people to control their minds. I bet you’re picturing a plumptuous woman in fishnet stockings with her arse sticking out. Well, there are plenty of those here but I am not one of them. All I see in the mirror is a pale, scrawny, bespectacled girl in a jacket and jeans with eyebags to spare. Why I have this “Uniqueness” is beyond me, but I wish I never had it.
So if you read on, I hope you are entertained by my mundane life. And if you find some meaning through these pages, please share them with me because I sure as hell can’t find any.
